Marry My Husband (내 남편과 결혼해줘) released this year in January and it was very well appreciated by the international viewers. K-Dramas these days are doing really good internationally. The reason I chose to review Marry My Husband was not because of its overwhelming story and mid-blowing cast but also every other thing be it controversy or scandle about the story or the actors made the headlines throughout.
I waited for this web series so finish so that I could watch all the episodes at once and when it did, I was hospitalised so I could finish it in 2 days.
Marry My Husband (내 남편과 결혼해줘) originally was a web novel and then it was converted into a webtoon and then it was immediately picked up by the producer and director.
This K-Drama didn’t only have a mind-blowing cast but it also brought in some controversies too. So, let’s go one by one.

Major Highlights of the Show (spoiler alert)
Kang Ji-won, a driven career woman, leads a seemingly ordinary life burdened by a selfish husband, Park Min-hwan, and a demanding mother-in-law. To make matters worse, she discovers she has terminal cancer. Her world shatters further when she catches her husband betraying her with her best friend, Jeong Su-min. He kills her then.
In a twist of fate, Ji-won finds herself miraculously transported back in time to ten years before her fateful encounter. Armed with the knowledge of future events, she’s determined to change her destiny. This time, she vows to protect herself and seek revenge against those who wronged her.
Ji-won embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. She reconnects with her estranged family, rebuilds her life, and even pursues a career and makes friends. During this time, she encounters Yu Ji-hyuk, a kind and supportive colleague who becomes her confidant and potential romantic interest.
Yu Ji-hyuk also came back 10 years back and as he knew the ending of Kang Ji-Won, he would do anything to save her this time. He would rectify the mistake of not telling her his feelings. Both finally come together and after a lot of stuff they get a happy ending. Min Hwan dies exactly the way he killed Kang Ji-Won but he is killed by Su-Min. And Su-min is imprisoned after she tries to kill Ji-Won in her final act.
We also get some more love characters; Lee Gi-Kwang as Baek Eun-ho who happens to be old classmate of Kang Ji-Won and Choi Gyu-ri as Yoo Hee-yeon, Yu Ji-hyuk’s bubbly little sister who is also Kang Ji-Won’s colleague.
Then we have Ha Do-kwon as Lee Seok-joon, a loyal employee of Yu Ji-hyuk’s grandfather and Gong Min-jeung as Yang Joo-ran who is another colleague of Ji-Won.
Apart from Ji-won and Ji-hyuk’s couple I can guarantee you; you are going to root for Eun-ho and Hee-yeon and Lee Seok-joon and Joo-ran, (Lee Seok-joon and Joo-ran were my fav).
We see all their stories parallelly. The ending of the story is satisfying and be it the protagonists and the antagonists you will love them all.
Yu Ji-Hyuk’s and Kang Ji-Won’s marriage and their kids and the glimpse of their life in future was beautifully scripted. The show ends on the day when Kand Ji-Won died in her past life and this how happy she is in this second chance that she had gotten. The last scene was really heart warming.
Popular Views:
- The show had changed quite a few minor details from the webtoon but had accurately copied the web-novel.
- We generally complain about how show characters do not match with book characters but this show had proven them wrong. Park Min-young as Kang Ji-won, Na In-woo as Yoo Ji-hyuk, Lee Yi-kyung as Park Min-hwan and Song Ha-yoon as Jung Soo-min were too accurate as cast.
- Reader always complains about inaccuracy in shows but this is one show which didn’t leave any space to complain.
- Sumin and Min Hwan as villains truly stole the show. They were super good.
Rumours and Scandals:
Seems like this show had faced a lot of scandals since it had surfaced but the show still was highly appreciated by the international viewers and it had a rating of 4.8 out of 5. Some famous scandals were:
- The drama starring Park Min Young faced a lot of people refusing to watch it because of a problem in her personal life. This problem started when people found out she used to date a businessman named Kang Jong Hyun, who is in trouble with the law. Because of reports about money going between Park and Kang, many people got upset and said they wouldn’t watch the drama. Later it was resolved when Park Min Young presented her view.
- The show got in trouble because of some of the clothes the main actress, Park Min Young, wore. People thought her outfits were too fancy and unrealistic for someone who works in an office. Even Korean news channels talked about it, saying that TV shows should be both creative and show things that really happen in life. People argued that some of the clothes were too revealing or just not appropriate for work, and this led to discussions about fashion, how people should dress at work, and how women are portrayed in movies and TV shows.
- Another rumour was that the Koreans said that Na-InWoo was not good looking and not perfect for playing Yu ji-hyuk’s character but the international fandom of the show Marry My Husband begged to differ, the international netizens called out the Korean public on their hypocrisy.
- BOA played the role (cameo) of Yu ji-hyuk’s fiancé. Although people were happy to see her on screen after a long a long time but there was a huge controversy on this as well. While there was some debate surrounding BoA’s acting in the show, Park Min Young spoke out in her defence.
Aftermath
Despite its flaws, the show has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, and its popularity continues even a month after the finale.
So, if you haven’t watched it yet, go and watch it! It’s not your regular drama, but it’s something that will give you an emotional payoff.
